In this 2024 edition of the Chianti Classico Marathon, there will also be a moment dedicated to the athlete from Mercatale in Val di Pesa, Sara Bartoli, with the 2nd Memorial dedicated to her. The Memorial will feature a special prize for the youngest woman who crosses the finish line first in the 47.2 km ultratrail.
Sara Bartoli, a well-known figure in the local sports community and beyond, has left an indelible mark on the sports world. In 2018, she was the face of the Chianti Classico Marathon as the protagonist of a promotional video.
A graduate in Food Science and Nutrition, Sara was renowned as a champion of OCR, races on obstacle-filled tracks, often courageously tackled in the mud. She had also donned the national team jersey, displaying extraordinary talent. In 2019, she captured the television audience by participating in the TV show ‘I Soliti Ignoti’ (The Usual Unknowns). Beyond the racecourse, Sara Bartoli was a lively presence on social media, with a devoted following.
Unfortunately, on July 27, 2022, while training along the Grevigiana SP 92 road, in the stretch from Mercatale to San Casciano in Val di Pesa, a tragic accident prematurely ended her life. Her memory continues to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
To keep her legacy alive, the Chianti Classico Marathon staff has decided to establish a special award, a plaque for the youngest participant who completes the long distance, thus commemorating her spirit and talent.
