The Chianti Classico Marathon is committed to being a completely plastic-free event. Even for the May 12, 2024 edition, the goal is to completely eliminate the use of plastic materials.
This significant decision was made by the organizing committee, under the guidance of Podistica Valdipesa, to further enhance this event that traverses unique places such as Mercatale Val di Pesa, the Antinori Winery, the Tignanello estate, the Badia a Passignano Abbey, the area of Greve in Chianti, the Verrazzano Castle, the Montefioralle Village, and the Gabbiano Castle. These places require special attention and protection, especially in an era where climate change is a global concern.
The Chianti Classico Marathon reaffirms itself as an event distinguished by its lack of plastic in its organization. At refreshment points, no plastic cups or materials will be used, and athletes are encouraged to bring their own cups, as per the regulations. Even the final meal will be completely plastic-free, utilizing compostable utensils and materials.
This commitment underscores the organizers’ strong belief in the philosophy of a plastic-free future.
