This year, the Chianti Classico Marathon also offers participants the opportunity to earn prestigious ITRA (International Trail Running Association) points.
Points, as in the 2023 edition of the event, will be awarded for both the Trail and the Utratrail. The scores awarded to runners will be: 2 points for the 47.2 km ultratrail and 1 point for the 21.8 km trail.
What are ITRA points
The International Trail Running Association was founded in 2013 to promote the values and development of trail running and to promote the safety and health of runners, ensuring dialogue between national and international bodies interested in the sport.
ITRA points are used to participate in some international long-distance races that allow registration only with a certain ITRA score.
ITRA evaluates points in a trail running event based on distance, elevation, and autonomy, so based on the kilometric effort and the difficulty that the athlete must use to reach the finish line. The classification includes seven different categories of trail races ranging from XXS to XXL.
To obtain ITRA points, it is sufficient to finish the race within the established maximum time, while the position in the ranking or the time taken does not affect the score.
